Adem Elveren
American University in BulgariaI received my PhD in economics at the University of Utah in 2008. Prior to joining the faculty at American University in Bulgaria, I served as a tenured professor at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. My main research field is defense economics. I have been studying the impact of military spending on the economy for over a decade. In 2019, Routledge published my book, titled The Economics of Military Spending: A Marxist Perspective. This work contributes to the literature by introducing a theoretical model and providing comprehensive empirical evidence on the impact of military spending on profit rates. I have also authored multiple articles in prominent field journals, examining the effects of military spending on income inequality and sustainability. Lastly, I authored a report for UN WOMEN on the impact of military spending on gender inequality. This report introduced a theoretical model and provided empirical evidence for the first time.
