Fintan Walsh

Birkbeck: University of London

Fintan Walsh, currently serving as the Head of the School of Creative Arts, Culture, and Communication and holding the position of Professor of Performing Arts and Humanities at Birkbeck, has been an integral part of the institution since 2012. Over the years, he has taken on various roles, including Programme Director of MA Text and Performance and BA Theatre and Drama Studies, Director of BiGS (Birkbeck Gender and Sexuality), Chair of the School of Arts Research Ethics Committee, and Director of Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre. Before joining Birkbeck, Fintan contributed to the academic landscape at Queen Mary University of London and Trinity College Dublin. His research in contemporary theatre and performance, spanning writing for performance, live art, and digital practices, has garnered support from organizations such as OSUN, Wellcome Trust ISSF, CHASE (AHRC), and the Irish Research Council. Notably, his dedication to creative practice research and teaching at Birkbeck earned him the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2023.
