Central European University’s Global Teaching Fellowship Program (GTFP) started in fall 2015 with eight fellows who went to teach at universities in Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, and Romania. To date, the program has supported over 130 fellows teaching at 20 partner institutions in 15 countries around the world. Ten fellows have accepted permanent academic positions at the host universities upon the completion of their fellowship. The success of GTFP surpassed expectations. On top of gaining teaching experience, the fellows found themselves embarking on a journey of personal growth and self-discovery. Exposure to different cultural environments, different higher education systems, or simply students from different age groups and backgrounds helped them become better teachers and researchers and enriched their personal lives. The host institutions had the chance to work with some of CEU’s brilliant doctoral candidates, who offered a vast array of new courses, research topics, and perspectives in humanities and social sciences.
GTFP was a well-established part of the training CEU offers to its doctoral candidates. Its success would have not been a reality without the enthusiasm and dedication of those who worked to establish and enable it, at CEU and at all partner institutions.
Central European University’s Global Teaching Fellowship Program (GTFP), one of the most successful global outreach initiatives in CEU’s history, became an OSUN trademark. GTFP was designed to give CEU doctoral candidates and recent graduates the experience of teaching at other universities for one semester or one academic year and to contribute to the needs of teaching and learning of CEU’s partners.
